The Middle Owyhee - Camping below Widowmaker

Thanks for a wonderful season!

To all our past and present guests and staff - Thank you for making our 5th season the best yet! We had a great water-filled spring and an exciting summer that included wonderful weather and some unexpected forest fire drama. As I say every year your personalities, interests, amazing life stories, and choices are shaping Momentum and we are deeply thankful for that.

We have some amazing photos from this year! As we collect them we will post them on our new blog: http://blog.momentumriverexpeditions.com/.

As the web continues to grow there are more and more review sites being used for reviews and testimonials (our website now has up to date testimonials for each river). These sites are great tools for travelers and we want to thank everyone for their reviews and feedback - to us directly and on sites like Yelp.com and Yahoo Travel.

Below there is info on our winter trips to Chile (are you coming?). Check out our Chile video here. We have spent the last week helping people with their flight arrangements.

Our 2009 trip schedule is also up and some of our most popular trips are starting to fill. You can check out the full schedule here, or just go to the river page you are interested in.

For those who are not joining us down south have a great winter and hopefully we will see you next year! Thanks again for an incredible season!

  Kind Regards,

September 23rd, 2008 editor

Hello Everyone. Our 2009 Oregon and Northern California rafting schedule is official out. You can check out the whole schedule here. Or you can just go to the river page of your choice. Some of our most popular trips and dates are already getting full so call if you have any questions.

Lucy: Momentum Dog

July 11th, 2008 swirl

Lucy was born on March 20, 2008 and has been “working” at Momentum since she was ten weeks old. Lucy likes to chew bones, take walks, and sleep. She is a great guard dog and can’t wait to get out on the river!

We Have New Coffee!

July 7th, 2008 editor

After many recommendations and a visit from the owner (along with about 50 french presses and types of coffee) we have a new coffee on all of our rafting trips from Noble Coffee (from right here in Southern Oregon). Here is a little bit about the company:

At Noble Coffee Roasting, we’re pretty much crazy about coffee. Whether it’s sourcing great coffees that we ensure are responsibly produced (100% certified organic, fairly traded, and shade grown), carefully hand-roasting them in small batches, or educating folks about how to best brew them, we are passionate about the art of the bean. We’re sure that you’ll be able to taste the difference.

You can read more about them at their website: http://www.noblecoffeeroasting.com/.

After much deliberation we chose the “Mokha Java”. Tell us what you think!

Oregon Treasures Legislation - Guest Opinion

June 24th, 2008 editor

It is time for Congress to Protect Oregon’s Treasures

Senator Ron Wyden and Congressman Peter DeFazio recently introduced Oregon Treasures – legislation that would protect 142 miles of Rogue River tributaries, greatly increase the size of Oregon Caves National Monument, and protect areas in the Mount Hood National Forest.

Passing this legislation would not only help to protect our local environment but also our local economy for generations to come. Local outdoor recreation companies such as mine rely on the pristine natural experience that Southern Oregon offers to prospective tourists.

The Rogue River is a nationally recognized natural treasure that lures people to the area on name and reputation alone. It is one of the central engines of a tourism and recreation economy in Southern Oregon that continues to grow and provide sustainable long-term jobs and opportunities.

The tributaries to the Rogue River that would be protected lie mostly between Grave Creek and Marial - an area that many locals call the Zane Grey roadless area. Here the Rogue River flows through one of the most spectacular and biologically unique wild areas in the United States. This is the “Wild” portion of the Rogue, but only one quarter of a mile on either side of the river is protected. The greater Rogue canyon – including the beautifully forested slopes that thousands of tourists float through every year – is not protected.

The list of businesses that are dependant on the Rogue River and the Oregon Caves is long, and the ripple effect the recreation economy has through southern Oregon’s economy is significant. Dependant businesses include hotels, bed and breakfasts, outdoor equipment stores, local restaurants, gas stations, and everyone else who benefits directly or indirectly from tourists visiting the area. This is why over 50 businesses, from local rafting and fishing companies to large regional outdoor retailers are working on the “Save the Wild Rogue” campaign.

For Southern Oregon, passing the Oregon Treasures legislation could not be more important and timely for both its short and long term economic stability. It is important that we urge all of Oregon’s elected leaders, including Senator Gordon Smith, to move this proposal forward.

A HUGE hit on the Illinois River!

Hello Everyone,

We hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful spring we are having (except for the last week of course!). We are over half way through our spring rafting season and have had a ton of incredible trips so far. Thanks so much to all who have joined us! Now we are looking forward to the last part of spring and to our summer trips. We still have a few weekends left on the Cal Salmon with space left for those looking for a last minute trip down one of the most amazing whitewater stretches in the country.

For those looking for summer rafting and inflatable kayaking on the Upper and Lower Klamath the flows look to be great (150 + % snow pack!) and now is the time to get the first choice of dates as we are starting to fill up.

Once again thanks to all who joined us on the Middle and Lower Owyhee, our inaugural season on the Illinois, and the Salmon, it has been a wonderful start to the season! Below there is info on late spring and summer trips. We hope to see you this summer!

We hope to see you in the summer!

Kind Regards,

LATE SPRING RAFTING TRIPS

The California Salmon 2 to 3-Day–Every spring starts with this one, and we still have a littel space left in June! The Salmon is one of the most spectacular rafting trips in the country; it is world-class whitewater in our back yard.

There is more Cal Salmon info at the California Salmon Rafting Page.

Lower Klamath / Clear Creek 3-Day Inflatable Kayaking - High water spring adventure trips on the Lower Klamath - and a chance to run a stretch of river that is rarely seen (or even heard of!). We still have a start left on June 13th!

There is more info at the Klamath River Kayaking Page.

“2 Guns” on The Upper Klamath
Two turbine flows – even bigger and more continuous then usual! We should get these flows through mid June!
For info, visit our
Upper Klamath page.

SUMMER RAFTING TRIPS

Summer On The Upper Klamath
The Upper Klamath River is definitely the most exciting summer class-IV trip in the West. We have a ton of water and great summer flows this year! Join us and see why this run’s fame and popularity grows every year. For info, visit our Upper Klamath page.

Lower Klamath Trips
2 to 4 days in remote and beautiful Northern California. It is the perfect introduction to rafting, river travel, and camping, and one of the best rafting trips in the country for families with young children. The river offers fun splashy rapids, rugged mountain scenery, beautiful side hikes, and tons of wildlife. For those wanting more excitement we can bring along inflatable kayaks, making the Lower Klamath great for a wide range of ages.

High Adventure Trips on the Lower Klamath
The Lower K is a beautiful down river trip (meaning all of our gear is in rafts and each night we camp along sandy beaches) and its rapids, while mild in rafts, are perfect and very exciting for inflatable kayaks. We love inflatable kayaking and guests that joined us last year have been raving about them.  It’s just you, your kayak, your recently learned skills, rapids at “face” level, and guides leading the way giving you tips, encouragement, and a helping hand when needed. A unique and exciting river experience.

There is more info at the Klamath River Kayaking page.

Winter rafting! A beautiful day on the Umpqua. We were a bit surprised by the amount of snow ? normally there is no snow at this elevation ? we had to go 25 miles downstream just to get to a spot where we could make it to the river without a plow!

Hello from one of the snowiest places in the west (this year at least)!

How are you? We hope everyone is having an amazing winter!
